What is MaraDNS ?
MaraDNS is a package that implements the Domain Name Service (DNS), an
essential internet service. MaraDNS is open source software; this means
that anyone is free to download, use, and modify the program free of charge.
People like MaraDNS because it's small, lightweight, easy to set up, and
remarkably secure. It's also cross platform -- the program runs both in
Windows and in UNIX clones.
MaraDNS has been in development and supported for over a decade; the
business model used to ensure MaraDNS' continued development is the
"PBS" business model: I ask for modest financial contributions every
now and then so that I can continue to develop and improve MaraDNS.
The level of time I devote to developing MaraDNS depends on the level
of monetary compensation I get.
If I got no sponsorship, I would only update MaraDNS to patch security
holes, and would have to place more ads on the web pages. Thankfully,
I have been getting help, allowing me to
devote time to answering email sent to the mailing list and devoting
time to fixing non-security bugs. However, I currently do not have
enough support to add features to MaraDNS.
More information describing MaraDNS is on the overview
and summary page.
